Kia ora e te whānau | Hello Everyone
I’m Tanita, a wife, māmā to two earthy tamariki (children), and the heart and hands behind Marama Flax Creations.
Alongside my passion for flax floristry, my husband and I also run a concrete business. My background as a crisis community worker has deeply shaped my understanding of connection and care, values that are woven into everything I do.
My journey into flax floristry has been one of growth and passion. I had the privilege of studying online with Heather from Flax and Fibre, earning my Certificate in Professional Flax Floristry. I also completed Level 1 Floristry with Kirsty and Naomi at Forget Me Knot Studios in Lakes Entrance, further deepening my love for the craft.
A key influence on my journey has been Whaea Tania from Tania’s Flax Mahi, who has mentored and guided me as I continue to develop my weaving skills. Her wisdom and support have been immeasurable.
The Village Behind Marama
Marama Flax Creations isn’t just me—it truly takes a village. I am incredibly grateful for my whānau (family) and close friends who support me every step of the way. A special shoutout to my friend Vanessa, who lends a hand in the studio once a week.
From harvesting and preparing flax to cleaning, weaving, packing orders, and helping at markets and events—this journey is shared with many. Their support is a huge part of what keeps Marama Flax Creations growing and thriving.
It is a true privilege to work, weave, live, and raise my tamariki on Gunaikurnai Country, surrounded by the wisdom and beauty of the land.
Ngā mihi,
Tanita
